01 · What you need

Bring your tiles. We'll bring the play.

Use one complete American or traditional Chinese Mahjong tile set and its dice for each table. No special Dragon Point board or physical kit is required. Your purchase adds the instructions, printable table materials and Private Host phone-scoring access.

Print and scoreSeat winds, table numbers, Player Score & Tracker, plus paper scoring, the phone app or both.
American Mahjong tile set152 tiles

Each wall contains 38 tiles. The set includes eight optional Jokers.

Chinese Mahjong tile set144 tiles

Each wall contains 36 tiles. This Mahjong tile set has no Jokers.

Racks and pushers are useful when your Mahjong tile set includes them, but they are optional. The minimum is a Mahjong tile set, dice, seat-wind markers and a scoring method.

02 · Recognize a win

Make four sets and exactly one pair.

A standard legal Mahjong may use any combination of Chows, Pungs and Kongs, plus one pair. The winning tile may be self-drawn or claimed from another player's discard.

ChowThree consecutive numbers in the same suit.
PungThree identical tiles.
KongFour identical tiles.
PairTwo identical tiles—exactly one pair completes the hand.
Bonuses sit outside the winning structure.

Flowers, Seasons and Jokers are not part of the four sets and pair. A host may also announce an optional Host Choice Hand before play; its exact pattern may be different.

03 · Play a hand

Follow the table's rhythm.

The complete guide illustrates how to choose East, build and break the walls, deal, make calls and draw replacements. After the deal, East begins with 14 tiles and each other player begins with 13. East opens the hand by discarding one tile.

East begins with 14 tiles; every other player begins with 13.After each hand, pass Seat Wind markers one player to the right.

At two- and three-player tables, the unused Seat Wind positions remain part of the setup.

01

Build the walls

Build four walls around the table: 19 stacks long and two tiles high with an American Mahjong tile set, or 18×2 with a Chinese Mahjong tile set.

02

Deal the tiles

East begins with 14 tiles. Every other occupied seat begins with 13. East starts the hand by discarding one tile.

03

Draw, call and discard

On each turn, draw the next wall tile or legally claim the latest discard, arrange the hand, then discard one tile.

04

Declare bonuses

Flowers, Seasons and optional Jokers are exposed when drawn. Follow their replacement rules before completing the turn.

05

Call Mahjong and score

A legal Mahjong ends play at that table. Everyone reveals and scores the hand they hold—not only the winning player.

When more than one player wants the same discard, call priority is Mahjong, Kong, Pung, then Chow. A Chow normally may be claimed only by the next player in turn, unless it completes Mahjong.

04 · Bonus tiles

Two delightful interruptions.

Flowers & Seasons

Expose, replace and keep playing.

Expose each Flower or Season as soon as it is drawn, then take a replacement from the Bonus Wall. Each is worth four points, and matching bonuses can also earn doubles.

Optional Jokers

A bonus choice—not a wild tile.

When a Joker is drawn, expose it and either take a replacement from the Bonus Wall or retrieve the latest discard for any reason. Dragon Point does not use Jokers as substitutes in sets.

The Official Player Guide covers opening exchanges, Kong replacements and the order for resolving multiple bonuses.

05 · Score together

Everyone scores. The app keeps up.

After Mahjong is confirmed, every player scores the hand they hold. Use the printable Player Score & Tracker, the phone scorer or both. The Guided Scorer asks one section at a time; experienced players may switch to the Full Scorer.

06 · Choose your format

Start with the foundation. Add challenge when you're ready.

Beginner · Standard Play

Learn the game together

Begin with the core Dragon Point Mahjong™ game: build four sets and a pair while learning the calls, scoring and flow of play. It is the best place for new players to start and can be played with two, three or four players at each table.

Social · Multi-Table Play

Mix the room and rank the group

Bring several tables into one game. Players rotate to keep the room mixing, while the phone scoring app connects submitted hands, Club Points, standings and five awards across the entire group. Use Standard Play or add either challenge level.

Intermediate · Magic 8 Challenge

Build beyond a legal hand

A legal winning hand must earn at least eight points before Mahjong bonus points are added. The familiar foundation stays in place, but stronger combinations and thoughtful decisions become more important.

Advanced · Double or Nothing Challenge

Aim for a qualifying hand

Mahjong may be called only when the legal hand also qualifies for an approved Double or a selected Host Choice Hand. This higher-risk format rewards deliberate hand-building, patience and competitive strategy.

Two Player · Double-Headed Dragon

Go head-to-head

Made especially for exactly two players. Each person plays two racks, putting all four winds in play at once. Choose Straight Deal or Dream Deal before the first hand, then track the matchup with the dedicated two-player phone scorer.

Venue Edition is coming soon for clubs, leagues, businesses and larger venue-style play.

Already play Mahjong?

I already play Chinese, American, or Wright-Patterson Mahjong. What's different?

You'll recognize familiar tiles and concepts, but Dragon Point Mahjong™ has its own rules, scoring, and play options, inspired by traditional Chinese Mahjong. Everyone follows the same Dragon Point Mahjong™ guide, with a shared scoring system and group awards bringing the tables together.

Choose beginner, intermediate, or advanced play for your game. Start with the foundations and explore more challenging options as your confidence grows. The optional guided phone scoring app helps with the calculations and tracks submitted hands and award standings; printable scoring materials let you play without the app, too.
